Julia Tulke
is a PhD student in the Visual and Cultural Studies program at the University of Rochester, NY (USA). She holds a BA in Social- and Cultural Anthropology from the Freie Universität Berlin and an MA in European Ethnology from Humboldt Universität Berlin. Her work engages with the politicization of everyday life through the creative appropriation of urban space. Specifically, she examines the cultural practices of street art and graffiti. Her MA research project, “Aesthetics of Crisis,” focused on street art and graffiti in Athens produced under and in response to urban austerity in Greece (aestheticsofcrisis. org).
