  • Dancer Rudzani Moleya, a medium-toned black woman, wears a long mustard yellow tunic and has her hair pinned up. They are sitting in the distance within a white background. Their reflection ripples all the way in a thin line across the screen. The words »underwater and surfacing our soil« appear above her head. Care, Community and Contingencies: Artistic Practices Rooted in Access

The Disability community is magical but elusive: rarely is it as straightforward as marching with other self-identified crips through a city, sequined outfits glistening in the sunshine, disability pride slogans taped onto mobility aids. Sometimes it is lying on a sofa in Zurich, Switzerland, chatting on Zoom to a fellow disabled artist in London, who is lying on their sofa, snacking on Nori chips.

  • A short poem is typed out in bold white font. The letters loom large over a complicated background of digitally collaged images. The furthest background layer is a sky forked with lightning. Next, a bleached, misty image of raindrops running down glass. On top of that is an archival poster image from one of Alexandrina’s Afrofuturist works Bounty Bars and Oreo Cookies (2015–2016), where her silhouette has been replaced with a funneling galaxy of stars. Her afro has purple-tinged edges. Dark, sprawling tree branches are laid on top of this alongside furry baobab seed pods – one of which has been broken open to reveal its seeds inside. All the seed pods have pink colouring applied in Photoshop. The images most in the foreground are of repeated caterpillar, cocoon, and butterfly photographs in the top right corner; in shades of inky blue and fluorescent lilac. And the bottom right-hand corner is an archival film still from Alexandrina’s work Embers (2016–2019). In this image, Alexandrina is double back-to-back with herself. Her face is painted a vibrant magenta, and she is wearing a rose-gold metallic fake leather jacket. She is slightly arching her neck, her gaze is downwards, and her lips are slightly apart. The poem reads: Have gone subterranean Search my spine for clarity Fuck acceptance Drink water

    Many Lifetimes-Series

The tone varies from a tongue-in-cheek attitude about self-help to a more reflective sense of how disabled bodies can be held tenderly through life’s transitions.
