Alexandra Waierstall ist eine in England geborene und auf Zypern aufgewachsene Choreografin und Künstlerin, die seit 2004 in Düsseldorf lebt und international tätig ist. Ihre konzeptuell und physisch geprägten Arbeiten umfassen Choreografien, Installationen, Texte, Filme und Bilder. Im Zentrum ihrer künstlerischen Praxis stehen Fragen zur Beziehung von Mensch und Umwelt, Zeit, Erinnerung und Verkörperung. Sie arbeitet interdisziplinär mit Künstler:innen aus Tanz, Musik und bildender Kunst zusammen und realisiert Projekte für Theater, Museen, Galerien und urbane Räume. Waierstall präsentierte ihre Werke weltweit, etwa im Musée du Louvre, Sadler’s Wells London, Dia Art Foundation New York und tanzmainz. Sie wurde mehrfach ausgezeichnet, u.a. mit dem Förderpreis der Stadt Düsseldorf, und ist Mitbegründerin des Festivals NO-BODY in Nikosia sowie des Projektraums TheArtSpace in Düsseldorf.

is a Düsseldorf-based choreographer, born in England and raised in Cyprus. Her conceptually and physically detailed investigations are expressed through choreographies, installations and film works crafting sounds, texts, images and the moving body. She approaches choreography as an act of empowerment, a way to reinvent our world anew.

She has presented her works at venues including Dia Art Foundation in Beacon, New York, Musée du Louvre – FIAC in Paris, Sadler’s Wells in London, Athens and Epidaurus Festival, Dansens Hus Oslo, Mousonturm in Frankfurt, Crossing Festival Beijing, Fringe Festival Shanghai, International Festival Seoul, Dansens Hus Stockholm, Fórum Mundial São Paulo, De Pont Museum Tilburg, Kunsthalle Mannheim, Bauhaus Museum Dessau. She has choreographed for the companies National Dance Company Wales and tanzmainz. Her work has been co-produced by tanzhaus nrw Düsseldorf since 2007. Between 2014 and 2016 she was Factory Artist at tanzhaus nrw.

She studied at the EDDC (European Dance Development Center) in Arnhem and received her BA in Performance and Choreography in 2002. She received her MA in Choreography from the ArtEZ University of the Arts Arnhem in 2006.
